My major is Sports and Recreation Administration. I'm going to pursue bike park management. I've taken a lot of philosophy classes though and I'm considering declaring a philosophy minor. It would mean an extra year of school though. I've never heard that saying. I tried googling it and didn't come up with anything. Let me think about it for a while and get back to you.

I learn all of what I know about Buddhism from Geshe Thupten Dorjee. AMAZING man. He taught Tibetan Philosophy and Culture and my university for a while. I took a few classes with him. He was also a good friend of my mother's best friend. His view on everything was fascinating. Google him. He's an interesting fellow.

It comes down to a debate about the legitimacy of various religions and their beliefs. Lots of people claim religious and ethical reasons for veganism/vegetarianism. IMO most of these are hypocritical BS. There is some legitimacy to these ideals coming from a devout practitioner of Buddhism. Buddhism doesn't demand or even really encourage that all of it followers try to reach enlightenment. Buddhism is simply a set of guidelines of how to live a happy fulfilling life. Believe it or not Buddhist beliefs are meant to be picked over. If a belief isn't for you then you don't have to follow it. Enlightenment is a personal quest with no external rewards. Most modern monks wear leather shoes. This doesn't mean they don't believe in Enlightenment. It's still very possible that their mother could have been reincarnated as that cow. But it doesn't change the fact that to live a life of moderation which is the heart of the Buddhist ideals they have to make compromises to adapt to modern life. Buddhism is even compatible with other religions. I know several people that claim to be Catholic Buddhist. If taken in the most literal sense they are incompatible. The ethics are very much compatible though. Ethics are all religion is REALLY about. Buddhists are able to make these compromises without abandoning their fundamental principles.
